Derserri (Des) obtained her degree in Occupational Therapy with first class honours from Curtin University and is a registered Occupational Therapist with the AHPRA in Australia and AHPC in Singapore. She has previously worked in a number of private and hospital settings in Australia specializing in hand therapy and orthopedics. Through her clinical work and doctorate research, she has developed a strong interest for working with children with sensory processing issues, Autism, Asperger’s syndrome and global developmental delay. With her background in hand therapy, Des is passionate about using a fun and multisensory approach to help children develop fine motor, gross motor and quality handwriting skills.
Currently, Des is also completing her PhD studies in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder and frequently presents at international conferences. Des is committed to keeping herself up to date with the newest evidence-based research to support your child during therapy and continues to strengthen her knowledge through workshops and courses.
Des is an enthusiastic, fun-loving therapist and enjoys getting to know each child. Des also works closely with teachers, families and other health professionals to facilitate the child’s independence and transferability of skills from therapy to the home and school settings. With therapy goals in mind, Des engages the child in fun and meaningful therapy to gain functional skills for play, school tasks and other daily activities.
