Regulation

Regulation

At our therapy center, we focus on improving sensory regulation, an essential skill that helps children manage their responses to sensory stimuli in everyday environments. Using the Zones of Regulation (Kuypers, 2011), we guide children through understanding their emotions and energy levels, categorizing them into four distinct zones: blue (low energy), green (optimal focus), yellow (elevated alertness), and red (extreme emotions). Our Occupational Therapists work with children to recognize these zones and develop strategies for self-regulation, so they can move between these states with greater ease and control.

In addition to the Zones of Regulation, we incorporate sensory integration therapy to help children process and respond appropriately to different sensory inputs. Through fun, engaging activities in our sensory gym, we help children improve their ability to handle sensory information like touch, sound, and movement. We also teach parents effective strategies to support sensory regulation at home, along with behavior management techniques to promote consistency and improve emotional control. This integrated approach not only empowers children but also provides families with the tools they need to create a more positive, structured environment for long-term success.
